THE NUMBERS
The easiest way for an agency to look good is to show metrics that only ever go up. Impressions, reach, followers. They do not pay salaries.
Our report starts with the money: what went in, what came back, where the enquiries came from and what an enquiry costs. Then comes the part most reports leave out: what we tried that did not work, what we are stopping, and what we learned from it. One stopped channel in a report is worth more than three charts pointing up.
Once a month we sit down together and decide the next step. There are no surprises at the end of the quarter, because anything that would have been a surprise has already been said.
The honest questions
Everyone promises transparency. What is different here?
The difference is that the report has a section for failures. If the month was weak, that is on page one rather than page fourteen. The advertising accounts are in your name and stay yours if you leave.
What if the numbers do not move?
Then we say so in good time and propose a change, including stopping a channel you are paying us for. An agency that will not propose stopping its own work is working for itself, not for you.
Who owns the data and the accounts?
You do. Accounts are opened in your name, you are the administrator and we are added as a team. If we part ways we remove nothing and we do not hold access back to make it awkward.
